This mug accompanies our upcoming article on Canada’s 19^th century soothsayer Mother Barnes of Plum Hollow, Ontario, to whom visitors would flock from all over North America to have their fortunes told. She also helped solve a major crime and raised 13 children, largely on her own. Not only did Jane Elizabeth Barnes (1800 – 1891) possess remarkable powers to look into the future, she also overcame personal adversity, became highly respected in her community and remains a local legend today.
