The most famous ship in Canadian history, the Bluenose, was launched in 1921 at Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, and was designed to be a sturdy fishing schooner as well as a racing vessel. Competing over the course of two decades in the International Fisherman's Cup and gaining fame for winning multiple races, "she was to be a working vessel, first and foremost, and work she did – earning the title Queen of the North Atlantic fishing fleet for her record catches." (quoted from the W.J. Roué Collection) The Bluenose has been memorialized on the Canadian dime since 1937.
